In recent years, Jeep has made significant improvements to the Grand Cherokee in fuel economy, interior styling, and ride quality, and 2014 has proven to be a year of exciting updates. A new transmission, an eight speed automatic, available in every Grand Cherokee model, brings better fuel economy and smooth shifting. Also available is the first diesel engine option since 2009: a very economical turbodiesel V6. The diesel engine is a good option for those who are planning to go off road or who need towing power in their midsize SUV. The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee manages to deliver a comfortable everyday drive, without losing anything of its off-road prowess. In fact, Jeep offers several 4-wheel drive systems to choose from, as well as an optional off-road package that provides an adjustable air suspension to change the ride height from 6.6 inches, for easy garage entry, to 11.3 inches, for ground clearance in rough terrain.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers five trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT. Each one is available with either rear 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive, except for the SRT model, which is 4-wheel drive. The Laredo comes standard with 17 inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, foglamps, keyless ignition and entry, power accessories, dual-zone air conditioning, a tilt and telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, and a six speaker sound system with 5 inch touchscreen, CD player, USB port, and auxiliary audio jack. The Laredo's optional Security and Convenience group offers additional features, like a power liftgate, remote engine start, a 115 volt power outlet, heated front seats and steering wheel, as well as options for 18 inch wheels, eight-way power driver's seat, satellite radio, and the new 8.4 inch touchscreen display with voice command.
