Summertime is on its way and with it, a slew of new teen drivers. Many teens take the free time that summer brings to finally work their way through getting a license.

At Moss Bros. Dodge serving Ontario, many of us have been through just this scenario and we know what comes next - the teen wants their own car. It's not a terrible idea because ultimately it can save gas money and it can build confidence and character.

But how can you pick the right car for a new driver? Here are some tips.

  1. Pick a simple, basic car. A first car doesn't have to be a beater, but it should be easy to drive and maintain.
  1. Pick an affordable car. It's not unheard of for a teen to have a little fender bender with their first car. To save the heartache that would come if your teen crashed an expensive vehicle, choose one that's affordable and that won't cost a fortune to fix. Less expensive cars will also be generally less expensive to insure.
  1. Let your teen help with the decision, but not completely. What does that mean? Quite simply, it means that while your teen should have some say in the car he or she gets to drive, the ultimate decision is yours.

This is an exciting time for teens and parents alike. Have fun with the purchase and be sure to see us at Dodge near Ontario so we can help you pick just the right car for your teen!
