Standard on the Durango for 2014 is a 3.6 liter V-6 engine which generates 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, there is an option for a 5.7 liter V-8, generating 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Durango still possesses its rear-wheel-drive, unlike many of its competitors, and it also has two available all-wheel-drive systems. Properly equipped, the V-6 Durango can tow up to 6,200 pounds, with the V-8 increasing that to 7,400 pounds. Trailer sway control is also standard on all Durango models. The 2014 Dodge Durango SUV will be available in five trim levels.
Due to the recent competition
in the full-size and crossover SUV segments, Dodge
is introducing quite a few upgrades to the 2014 model year. Much of the
base of the 2014 Durango is shared with the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Changes to the interior include a new digital instrument panel that allows
drivers to select their preferred view, as well as a shifting knob in the
center console, rather than the usual lever. Passengers in the Durango's back
seat will notice the video system is now in the seatbacks, rather than in a
flipdown system from the roof. The Durango's exterior is seeing a few updates,
as well, including a new grille, raised front bumper, projector beam
headlights, LED running lights, and Dodge's signature racetrack taillights. As
for changes under the hood, the SUV has been fitted with a new eight-speed
automatic transmission, helping the Durango achieve a 9 percent greater fuel
economy.
