For over 40 years, the Toyota Corolla has been one of the most popular products in the compact segment, but Toyota is taking a calculated risk with its 11th generation redesign. Despite being reluctant to tinker with the Corolla's looks, in the past, Toyota is rolling out a more angular, chiseled look and standard LED headlights, among other aspects of the 2014 redesign. The base model will come equipped with a 132 horsepower 1.8 liter four cylinder engine, four-speed automatic transmission, or a six-speed manual transmission, the latter of which will also be available in the Toyota Corolla S trim package. In addition to the changes in exterior styling, the new Corolla features upscale cabin materials, a longer wheelbase, and more rear-seat passenger legroom. Toyota is clearly looking to make a stronger statement with the design of the new compact car, despite the risk of alienating its more conservative customers.

The payoff will come if the new design attracts younger buyers. Corolla has been the second best-selling Toyota model in the U.S., next to the Camry, and the best-selling Toyota vehicle in the world market. Toyota also plans to offer a 2014 Corolla LE Eco package, which will target the 40 mpg highway driving category. This model adds underbody covers, a color-keyed rear spoiler, low-rolling-resistance tires on 15 inch wheels, a 1.8 liter four cylinder engine, and a continuously variable transmission. The first of the 11th generation Corollas rolled off the line in late July and should be hitting Toyota dealerships in the next few weeks. The 2014 Corolla redesign is an exciting moment for Toyota and its customers.
