Debuting in 2007, the Honda Fit has been popular with subcompact enthusiasts seeking a budget-friendly, sporty ride for their daily commutes. The first-generation Honda Fit offered just two trim levels, with no available factory options. Based upon a minimalist design, the base version came standard with air-conditioning and a CD player, while the Sport trim package featured larger 15 inch alloy wheels, varied exterior styling, keyless entry, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel and an MP3 compatible audio system with auxiliary jack. This generation was only offered for two years, and in 2009, the current second-generation Fit made its appearance.

The current generation also offers two trim packages, base and Sport. The base package comes standard with air-conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, a tilt and telescoping steering column, and a four speaker audio system with CD player, auxiliary audio jack, and iPod/USB audio interface, while the Sport package again offers larger wheels, sportier exterior design, and a six speaker audio system with iPod/USB port. The Sport package also offers an additional touchscreen navigation system. Both first and second generation Honda Fits offer a peppy, enjoyable drive, decent cargo space, and a budget-friendly fuel economy that any subcompact enthusiast would be excited to own. However, some significant changes are in store for the 2015 model, which should be on the U.S. Market by the summer of 2014.

The all-new Japanese model Honda Fit seems to offer a preview to the U.S. 2015 models. In addition to a sleeker and more aggressive design with more angular bodywork, the new Fit will also sport a new headlight and grille combination. The U.S. will also receive a new hybrid system for the Fit. While the hatchback version of the car will not be available as a hybrid, the Fit will be available in a sedan and a small crossover using the hybrid drivetrain. The hybrid will sport a seven speed dual clutch transmission and boast a 1.5 liter engine with a 22 kw electric motor and battery. If you are considering a new subcompact, especially a hybrid, you may want to wait for the release of the Fit redesign, but if you are merely looking for a subcompact that doesn't sacrifice cargo space or driveability, stop by Moss Bros. Auto group in Riverside, or one of its other nine locations, today.
